What is one thing you can't travel without?
I have learned that nowadays my Mzoo Eye Mask along with my heated are NECESSARY for me while on assignment.
Favorite Food
I love Italian Food- Baked Ziti w/ Smoked Sausage to be exact 😊Where is your current assignment and what are some of your favorite places you've been to during this assignment? If you are currently taking a break from traveling, what city was your favorite assignment was in, along with top sites to see?
I am currently on my 1st assignment as a Labor & Delivery Nurse in Gunnison, Colorado, which is known for having some of the coldest winters in the U.S. Gunnison is a small town packed with plenty of local shops and restaurants that breathe life into this area. Not only that, it has its own airport, & is located about 35-40 min. away from Crested Butte (CB). CB is a popular ski town in the area known for the slopes during the winter and for its natural wildflowers during the warmer months. So, if you're a lover of winter recreation and the outdoors...there is a FREE bus that runs to CB daily. Also, if you want to break away from the small town feel, there's a local bus that runs 3hr to Denver, CO for an affordable price. Even when it snows, this town thrives in its ability to keep the roads clear and the stores accessible, which has been meaningful to me, because being from the coast, driving in snow is not my strong suit lol. My favorite things about the town would be the slower pace of living, the people, local dining/pubs(Back Country Cafe & Cake Me Away), and last but not least waking up to the majestic snow capped mountains each day. When you open your door to a fresh blanket of snow, it's a reminder that every day is an opportunity for a clean slate along with a new beginning. I have enjoyed serving in this community, and if you don't mind good old ski country living, Gunnison could be the place for you!
What do you love most about working with TotalMed and/or your recruiter?
Overall working with TotalMed has been a great experience. Since it is my first assignment and my first time in the West, my recruiter Hannah Bigger has been by my side the whole way. She has been a solid resource during this experience, and I wouldn't have it any other way. From helping me learn how to prepare a wardrobe for the winter months, to guiding me confidently through the onboarding process, she always goes above and beyond. That speaks volumes to me since I desired to work for a company that values their staff individually while still offering ways to provide structure to important processes like "Onboarding." Hannah has been a friend, a cheerleader, a listening ear and a source of information during my time with TotalMed. She has made my first travel experience a phenomenal one and I look forward to our continued collaboration.
Why did you decide to go into travel healthcare?
I decided to go into travel healthcare to have more freedom of my time and to see the U.S. on my terms.
What is your top tip for fellow travelers?
Research as much as possible about the place you will be working in. Secure housing early!
